Description

National Guardsmen distribute supplies following Hurricane Katrina;
Sixty-three-year-old Joseph Lewis receives three MRE’s and a few bottles of water from passing Guardsman. Residents have complained that local police have told them to evacuate, that they are a burden on the weakened supply system. The National Guardsman, they say, are gladly passing out food and water to whoever needs it. Many citizens are complaining that very little if any relief has reached the city. “The Salvation Army comes around with sandwiches and cold water. There is no Red Cross, nor FEMA, Just a few church based organizations that we are very grateful for,” said Lewis. Mr. Lewis lived his entire life in the Lafitte Housing Development in the background. Says, “That old project isn’t going any where…neither am I”.
